Upper School
The
Upper School comprises the Fourth and Fifth Forms, during
which GCSE courses are taken. Pupils are encouraged to choose
a broad range of subjects, whilst taking account of any long-term
goals, and are advised by the Careers Department.
Most pupils take ten GCSEs* at the end of the Fifth Form,
although those who take Greek will take eleven. Pupils are
setted for Mathematics, but are otherwise taught in mixed
ability sets. The higher Mathematics sets take their GCSE
at the end of the Fourth Form.
All pupils study Mathematics, English, Science, a Modern Language,
Personal, Health and Social Education, Physical Education
and Games. Students have a choice between studying the three
separate sciences or the Double Award course which incorporates
elements of all three sciences.
At
Reigate Grammar School, we aim not only to gain success for
the students in their GCSEs, but also to prepare them for
the much more testing Sixth Form work which will follow, enabling
them to proceed to University.

* In some subjects, pupils may sit IGCSE (international exams)
which are regarded as more rigorous versions of the GCSE.
