Academic : Introduction

Click to enlargeAs a grammar school, we place considerable emphasis on acquiring good work habits in the early years. All pupils are set homework each weekday evening, starting with about one hour of work in the Lower School and increasing thereafter. Pupils learn self-discipline and the skills of independent study, so that they are equipped not only for the public examinations that come later, but also for the world beyond.

The curriculum is broad. All pupils in the Lower and Middle Schools study a wide range of subjects, designed to keep their options open for as long as possible. There is no streaming, but pupils are setted for mathematics.

Most pupils take ten GCSEs at the end of the Fifth Form, although some examinations may be sat at the end of the Fourth Form. In the Sixth Form, most students sit four AS levels at the end of the Lower Sixth and three A2 exams in the Upper Sixth. The majority of our leavers go on to good universities.
