The School Library
The
library is housed in one of the oldest rooms in the school.
With its high vaulted ceiling, it provides a calm, quiet atmosphere
where pupils can work with no interruption, read, revise or
just relax with a magazine or newspaper. It is also a focal
point for visitors to the school.
It has some 12,500 books including fiction, non-fiction and
reference books. In addition, it has a large selection of
magazines and newspaper as well as several computers with
internet access.
The
library is open from 8:00-5:00 with a full time librarian.
Pupils are encouraged to use the library throughout the day
and the Sixth Form use the facilities for private study.
Pupils
in the First form have library lessons with their English
teachers when they are taught how to use the Dewey classification
system and how to access the library catalogue.
Stock is upgraded regularly after consultation with staff
and pupils and book suggestions are most welcome.
Two publications are available each term namely the Library
News, which lists new book acquisitions and activities in
the library, and the Library Review in which books, plays,
films, exhibitions are reviewed by pupils and staff.
