Community Service & Charities

The
main aim of the Community Service programme is to provide
students with the opportunity to "make the most of their
ability" for others. Through fundraising for charities,
students become more aware of the needs of others less
privileged
than themselves. Each year, a variety of activities take
place raising money for a selection of charities - local,
national and international - which are often chosen by
the pupils.
During the academic year 2007/2008, the
total sum raised was £13,119.88. This sum included: £1,200.72
raised by the First Form readathon for CLIC Sergeant & Roald
Dahl, £1022.72 raised for the Brigitte Trust through a Fashion
Show held in the Summer Term, £635 raised for a school in
Belize by Sixth Formers who gave up their Christmas Eve to
wrap presents
in Marks
& Spencer, and £5,136.98 from the annual sponsored run in
aid of The Children’s Trust at Tadworth Court, a charity
we have supported since 1983. A full list of events and the
funds raised can be found on the right hand side of this
page.
In addition to fundraising activities, we
also encourage our students to use their talents to help local
people. We do this in several ways including:
-
Sixth Form students who help in the local community including
Millennium Volunteers;
-
Concerts and recitals in local schools and residential
homes;
-
Inviting local schools to matinee performances of our
school productions;
-
Hosting an annual Christmas Party for the elderly.
So, in the course of the year hundreds of
our students are involved in helping others. Many directly
through their actions; others indirectly through their sponsorship
and encouragement. In this way, we hope that we have made
a significant impact on the lives of many people.
