Reigate
Grammar School is renowned for its sport and prowess on the
games field. Our teams are often very successful and we have
a good fixture list against local schools. Where possible,
we try to field 'B' teams in the major sports, to give as
many pupils as possible the opportunity to represent the school.
The main games for boys are rugby, hockey and cricket, and
for girls, netball, hockey and rounders. A distinctive feature
of sport at RGS is the opportunity to play both winter sports
simultaneously; senior boys can therefore choose to play either
rugby or hockey, or both, while girls teams in both hockey
and netball run for both the winter terms.
Other
sports available include football, athletics, tennis, table
tennis, badminton, squash, swimming, gymnastics, basketball
and golf.
However, not everyone is a star and the games programme is
designed as much for those who just enjoy some weekly exercise
as for those who play in the many school teams. Senior pupils
can choose from a wide range of sporting activities, to ensure
some worthwhile activity for all.
Overseas tours are a regular feature of the major sports and
recent destinations have included South Africa, Jersey, Ireland,
Austria, Malta, Barcelona and Barbados.
