Hockey

Reigate Grammar School is working hard to fulfil its vision of taking hockey to the next level through the pursuit of excellence across all age groups.

Our high quality, all weather facility has received the accolade of being selected as one of England Hockey coaching workshops’ approved venues, as well as being a Surrey Hockey DC/SDC training location.

Girls` hockey takes place during the autumn term, followed by the boys in the spring term. Senior students can choose to specialise in hockey throughout the year. The list of teams we field is extensive as we offer as many of our students as possible the opportunity to represent RGS at Hockey. We take pride in the increasing number of our most talented performers gaining selection for county teams. RGS is regularly represented at county, regional and national level.

The introduction of the RGS Player Development Programme (PDP) enables identified individuals to represent different age groups which can help them to achieve their full potential.

Coaching programmes have been specifically designed to be equally applicable to the development of core skills, game play, set plays and movement quality for all pupils.

In addition, our partnership with Reigate St Mary’s has enabled our indoor hockey programme to progress positively with two training sessions per week.

As well as various club affiliations the RGS Hockey outreach programme has grown positively with sports staff regularly delivering coaching sessions at local prep and primary schools as part of their PE curriculum.

Reigate Grammar School encourages talented performers from outside of the school to consider applying for a sport scholarship in hockey, and would certainly make them welcome within our expanding elite athlete development programme should they be successful.
