Mr Alan Walker (Chairman)
|
|
Early career included positions as
a lecturer in Mathematics at the Royal Military Academy,
Sandhurst and in Operational Research at Burmah-Castrol
Company Ltd. and National Westminster Bank plc. Moved
to financial roles at Nat West after qualifying as
an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers
and Associate of the Institute of Actuaries. Joined
3i Group plc in 1982 and undertook roles in investment
management, strategic planning, trustee of the 3i Group
pension fund and as Group Treasurer until retirement
in 2006.
Member of the Council of the University
of Southampton since 1997. Appointed University Treasurer
2003. Director, University of Southampton Holdings
Ltd and Southampton Asset Management Ltd. Chairman,
University of Southampton Science Park Ltd. Former
Chairman, Reigate St. Mary’s Preparatory and
Choir School.
Fellow of the Institute of Mathematics
and Its Applications, Fellow of the Royal Statistical
Society, Member of the Association of Corporate Treasurers,
Chartered Mathematician and Chartered Scientist.
Joined the Board of Reigate Grammar
School in 2000.

Professor C B Jennings (Vice Chairman)
|
|
Educated at Reigate Grammar School
before going to London University in 1951. After graduating
with a degree and higher degree in Mechanical Engineering
from Imperial College, spent two years as a graduate
apprentice at the steam turbine builders C A Parsons & Co
Ltd in Newcastle upon Tyne.
After a period as a design engineer
became Manager of the Applied Mechanics Office within
the Turbo-Generator Division. Using his industrial
experience joined what has become known in recent years
as South Bank University holding a number of posts
before being appointed Dean in the Faculty of Engineering
in 1988.
Retired in 1998 but remains an Emeritus
Professor and Honorary Fellow of South Bank.
Nominated by the Old Reigatian Association
as a Governor of Reigate Grammar School in March 2002.

Mrs
Jennifer Langham (Vice Chairman) |
Worked
in various organisations in publishing, opera administration
and the Foreign Office. Sits as a Magistrate on the
Reigate Bench. Daughter attended Reigate Grammar School.
Joined the Board of Governors of Reigate
Grammar School as a PFA nominated governor in 2003.
Recently appointed a Trustee of the Godfrey Searle
Choir Trust.

Mr
Richard Bacon |
Educated
at Reigate Grammar School and, following University,
qualified as a Chartered Accountant with
Ernst and Young. Worked in private practice since qualifying
and currently based in Horsham.
Involvement in a number of voluntary organisations
including a charity for palliative care and Director
of Finance to registered charity, Chipstead Players,
an amateur dramatic society.
Two grown up sons both attended Reigate St Mary’s
Preparatory and Choir School and Reigate Grammar School.
Treasurer of the Old Reigatians Association.
Joined the Board of Governors in 2006.

Dr Yvonne Burne
|
|
Read French with German at Westfield
College, University of London followed by a PhD. Various
teaching posts before becoming Headmistress of St Helen’s
School, Northwood, in 1987 and City of London School
for Girls in 1995. Extensive experience in publishing
as well as membership of Hillingdon Family Health Service
Authority (1990-1996) and member of the Council of City
University London amongst many others.
A Governor of Reigate Grammar School
since March 2002, and is Chairman of the Educational
Policy Committee.

Sir Colin Chandler
|
|
Educated at St Joseph’s Academy
and Hatfield Polytechnic (now the University of Hertfordshire).
Spent many years working in British Aerospace culminating
in becoming Divisional Managing Director followed by
Group Marketing Director.
Seconded from BAe to the Ministry of
Defence as Head of Defence Export Services during which
time was knighted for Services to Export as well as
becoming Commander of the Order of the Lion of Finland.
Some years were spent at Vickers plc
eventually becoming Chairman followed by Chairman of
Racal Electronics plc.
Currently Chairman of EasyJet plc,
Deputy Chairman Smiths Group plc, Chairman Automotive
Technik Ltd as well as Chairman TI Automotive Ltd, Pro-Chancellor
of Cranfield University and Trustee of Brooklands Museum.
Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society,
Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants
and Honorary DSc – Hertfordshire.
Joined the Board of Governors of Reigate
Grammar School in 2003.

Professor Finbarr Cotter
|
|
Graduated in medicine from the University
of London in 1978 having trained in Haematology at
the Royal London Hospital and in Oncology at St Bartholomew's
Hospital, London. Became a fellow of the Royal College
of Physicians and the Royal College of Pathologists.
Obtained a PhD molecular biology of
lymphoid malignancies in 1986 whilst working for ICRF.
In 1992 moved to the Institute of Child Health (University
College London) as a senior lecturer and then as a
reader in molecular haematology and oncology (Consultant
in Haematology and Oncology, Great Ormond Street Hospital),
where the molecular research into the haematological
malignancies was continued as part of the Leukaemia
Research Fund Centre.
Various books and reviews have been published as well
as continued research in the subjects of Haematology.
Joined the Board of Governors of Reigate
Grammar School in 2003.

Mr Keith Crombie
|
|
After obtaining BSc (Wales) and PGCE,
taught at Dover College Junior School and Hazelwood
School, Limpsfield, before becoming Head of Mathematics
at Downsend School, Leatherhead and then St Paul’s
Junior School, Colet Court. Became Deputy Head of King’s
College Junior School, Wimbledon followed by the position
of Headmaster of Lanesborough Preparatory School, Guildford.
Moved to become Headmaster of St Michael’s
School, Otford, in September 2003.
Joined the Board of Governors of Reigate
Grammar School in 2003.

Professor Ian Dennis
|
|
Educated at Manchester Grammar School
and Queens’ College, Cambridge, and Inns of Court
School of Law (Grays Inn).
Barrister-at-Law, Head of Department
of Law, UCL with an extensive range of professional
academic and consultancy appointments.
Special consultant to the Law Commission
on the draft Criminal Code as well as Editor of Criminal
Law Review and seminars to the Bar on developments in
criminal law.
A Governor of Reigate Grammar School
since November 2002.

Mrs Angela George
|
|
After graduating from Sheffield University
with BA (Econ), became a graduate trainee at Harrods.
Subsequently gained the professional qualification of
MCIPD. From there followed a career in HR primarily
within a major airport management organisation both
in the UK and the USA.
Presently working as an independent
HR consultant working on a variety of projects and assignments.
Joined the Board of Governors of Reigate
Grammar School in 2003.

Mr
Robert Hails |
Educated
at Malvern College and Pembroke College, Cambridge he
graduated with a degree in engineering. He completed
an MSc in Operational Research at Birmingham University
and then joined the consulting actuaries Duncan C Fraser.
After qualifying as a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries
he joined Watson Wyatt in 1985 and became a partner in
1987. Since then he has advised a wide range of trustees
and employers on all aspects of pension scheme design
and financing issues, as well as being Scheme Actuary
to a number of FTSE 100 companies.
In 2003 Robert was elected to the Council of the Institute
of Actuaries, is a member of the Institute’s
Pensions Board and is also involved with other professional
initiatives
in the pensions area.
All three children, two girls and a boy, attended
Reigate Grammar School and between them were involved
in most
aspects of school life, together with his wife Janet
who was a member of staff for 10 years until 2006.

Mr David Hall
|
David
Hall is Chief Executive of the Polypipe Group, one
of Europe’s leading plastic building materials
manufacturers. David graduated from Kingston Polytechnic
with an honours degree in Mechanical Engineering and
prior to leading the management buy-out of Polypipe,
has served as an executive and non-executive director
for both publicly quoted and private companies.
David has been involved in a number of trade organisations
and is on the council of the British Plastics Federation.
He has taken part in several joint initiatives with
Government to promote best practice in UK manufacturing.
David lives in Leigh and has been based around Reigate
for over 30 years. He plays hockey for Reigate Priory
and enjoys tennis and sailing when time allows. He
is married with two sons, one at Reigate Grammar and
one at Reigate St Mary’s. David served as a governor
for Reigate St Mary’s for 3 years before his
appointment as a governor to the Grammar School in
2003.

Mrs Jane Forbat
|
|
Educated at Surbiton High School and
read law at Bristol University. Attended the College
of Law at Guildford, served articles with a London
firm and qualified as a solicitor in 1979.
After ten years working as a solicitor in London,
and ten years with another local firm, joined Morrisons
Solicitors LLP in 2001, becoming a partner in 2003.
Specialises in Wills, probate, tax planning and law
for the older client. A member of the Society of Trust
and Estate Practitioners and Solicitors for the Elderly.
Was a Governor of St John's Primary School, Redhill
for sixteen years until 2006, serving as Chairman and
Vice-Chairman.
Has three grown-up sons, two of whom attended Reigate
Grammar School.
Joined the Board of Governors in April 2008.

Mr Bill Dunnet
|
|
Educated at Felixstowe Grammar School
and Oxford Brookes University graduating with a degree
in architecture. Subsequently gained an MSc in Project
Management from Reading University.
Joined a firm of London architects where, after partnership
in 1980, professional experience has involved leading
design teams on major commercial projects including
London Bridge City, Hays Galleria and Grosvenor Waterside.
Project management experience includes strategic advice
on headquarters facilities for leading British companies
such as Reckitt & Colman and A C Nielsen in Oxford.
Overseas involvement has included designing a range
of building types in a 10 year joint venture with Nigerian
architects.
In a break from architectural education he undertook
a two year period as an Outward Bound instructor in
Devon. He currently serves on the executive committee
of the Westminster Society whose remit is the betterment
of the City's environment in its broadest sense.
He is a member of the Royal Institute of British
Architects and the Architects Registration
Board.
Bill has lived in Reigate for over 30 years where
both his children were educated with his
son attending Reigate Grammar School.
Joined the Board of Governors in April 2008.

Mrs Joanne Oliphant |
Awarded B.A. (Hons) in Combined Subjects, German and
Music, followed by P.G.C.E. and P.G. Dip in Post-compulsory
Education and Training.
Professional experience includes writing qualifications
for approval by Qualifications and Curriculum Authority,
advising colleges, schools and businesses on the implementation
of new qualifications. Member of the DfES Experts Group
for Modern Foreign Languages.
Additional education experience includes Head of Department
for Business at East Surrey College, writing qualifications
for approval by Qualifications and Curriculum Authority,
Curriculum Leader for Languages for Surrey Community
Services and Head of Centre for Adult Education. External Examiner for
UCLES for German at A Level and GCSE and Music at GCSE.
Member of the Surrey LSC Strategic Management Group.
Both her daughters have attended Reigate Grammar School.
She was appointed to the Board of Governors in 2006 as the governor nominated by the PFA.

Mr William Siegle |
Educated at Kings Norton Grammar School
Birmingham followed by the College of Estate Management.
William Siegle is also a Fellow of the Royal Institution
of Chartered Surveyors and is Partner and Head of Commercial
Division at Cluttons LLP.
A Governor of Reigate Grammar School since July 05.

Mr Richard Woodhouse
|
|
Educated at Marlborough College and
Peterhouse Cambridge. Called to the Bar (Inner Temple),
SE Circuit in 1962. Practised common law, latterly mainly
planning.
Assistant Recorder (1982-1990), Planning
Inspector (1990-194) after which became Senior Planning
Inspector (1994-1999).
Since retirement in 1999 engaged in
various part time tasks including Honorary Property
Surveyor National Trust, Programme Secretary for Domestic
Buildings Research Group (Surrey) and Joint Bee Swarm
co-ordinator for Reigate and Banstead area.
First appointed a Governor of Reigate
Grammar School in November 2002.

Dr Kathryn Knapp |
Dr Knapp read Chemistry at University
College, London, followed by Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry.
She has been connected with Reigate Grammar School for
over thirty years, first joining the school to teach
Science in 1973. Kathryn Knapp became Director of Studies
at RGS in 1993 and was appointed Senior Deputy Head in
1997.
Throughout her service as a teacher at the school,
Dr Knapp played a major role in significant changes
including the move to co-education throughout the school
in 1993. Dr Knapp also took the role of Acting Head
of the school during the summer term of 2001 and retired
as Senior Deputy Head in Summer 2004.
Dr Knapp has extensive experience as an Assistant
Examiner for OCR Examinations Board and she is also
co-author of four chemistry text books. Dr Knapp is
a Team Inspector for the Independent Schools Inspectorate.
