Netball

Netball runs alongside hockey as the leading sport for girls.

Netball at RGS has two streams: inclusive and performance netball. There are major block fixtures on Saturday mornings during the spring term allowing girls of all ability the opportunity to be involved in competitive matches against other leading netball schools.

The performance groups train and play from September to March with fixtures held during the week. In recent years, RGS has been very successful in the National Competition against schools such as Millfield, Bromsgrove and Berkhamsted.

Annually we run a popular junior netball tour to Manchester where the girls play against some of the best schools nationally and train at Superleague venues with guest coaches. Previous coaches have included Tracey Neville, Karen Greig and England players Beth Cobden, Laura Malcolm and Ellie Cardwell.

Our senior netball tour to Dubai runs every three years and gives access to world-class facilities and exposure to different playing styles with teams from Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Netball training takes place both before and after school as well as during games lessons. Training sessions focus on developing ball skills, fitness levels, tactical knowledge of the game as well as the implementation of set plays. Training is open to all pupils, however in the autumn term it is offered to those in performance squads. The girls also have access to specific strength and conditioning sessions at lunchtimes and after school.

In addition to term time sport, netball camps are held during the school holidays. These are led by guest Superleague and England players alongside RGS Director of Netball, Alice Travis (ex-England and Superleague player).
