Record breaking summer
sees students make the grade
For
the second week running, students at Reigate Grammar School
are celebrating after achieving record
exam results. Announced today, the percentage of A and A*
grades at GCSE awarded to RGS students was over 67 per cent,
a three per cent increase on the previous school record.
The overall pass rate at grades A* to C was 98.5 per cent.
All 138 students achieved at least seven A* to C grades and
two out of every three grades awarded was an A* or
A grade. The results came hot on the heels of record A Level
results for the school, announced last week.
A total of 46 students
gained at least 9 A* and A grades across their chosen subjects.
Three students, Eleanor Bolus, Beatrice Crayford
and Dorian Robinson, achieved 11 A* grades with fellow
students Rosanna Cain, Sarah Perry and Emily Horn obtaining
10 A* grades. All 52 Religious Studies candidates achieved
an
A*
or A grade.
Results
for
the more rigorous iGCSE examinations taken in Maths saw
100 per cent of students achieve A* to C grades. Despite
the high achievements in the subject, the school’s
results in Maths will be excluded from the Government’s
league tables, as the tougher iGCSE exam results are not
yet included in official statistics.
Congratulating the students and staff on their results,
David Thomas, Headmaster, said: “This year’s
results are a magnificent achievement and I am delighted
that the determination and hard work of our young people
has been rewarded with record breaking grades. It is also
a credit to the talented teaching staff here that have supported
the students through their GCSE exams.”
Today’s results have confirmed RGS student Jonathan
Stephens’ Army Scholarship. The 16 year old is one
of only 44 young people across the UK to be awarded an Army
Scholarship which will
see him progress to the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst
after successfully completing his Sixth Form education at
RGS and University. Jonathan was offered the scholarship,
subject to GCSE results, following an intensive two
day Army assessment which included tough mental and physical
challenges.
46 Year 10 students are also celebrating after all achieving
either A* or A grades at iGCSE maths despite sitting the
exam a year early.
