Cinderella Makeover Makes
For Entertaining French Lesson
Third Form students
at RGS enjoyed an ecological makeover to the classic fairytale,
Cinderella,
with a performance of
Cendrine Bio by the visiting European Theatre Company.
Performed in French, the updated tale followed teenage
heroine Cendrine as she struggled to persuade her wasteful
sisters to take more care of the environment.
Echoing the original classic, the storyline saw the modern
day Cinderella running around after her sisters, where they
relaxed she worked hard. With a last minute invitation to
the discotheque, Cendrine meets her prince charming and ultimately
wins both him and her life’s ambition; to see her environmentally
designed shoe become a reality. Enjoying an action packed
mix of rap, traditional French songs and audience participation,
the students played a full part in the hour long show.
Commented Mrs Jane Manfield, Head of French at Reigate Grammar
School: “Cendrine Bio was an excellent and enjoyable
interpretation of Cinderella and the humour provided many
laughs from the audience of staff and students. As well as
providing a break from classroom studies, this event was
also an excellent test of the students’ ability to
listen to and comprehend French over a long period of time.”
