First Form send teacher
packing with stationery help
A
First Form teacher has been sent packing to a remote school
in Ethiopia with a delivery of
stationery
and goods donated by students
at the Reigate Road school. Over 100 students in Year 7 joined
together to send Mr Matthew Clark off with as many pens,
pencils and books as he could carry on a recent visit to
Koremash School, set deep in the Ethiopian countryside.
On return from his trip, having delivered over 30 kilos
of stationary gifts to the school, Mr Clark commented: “This
was a wonderful effort from our students and I was very privileged
to travel to Ethiopia and deliver the gifts to Koremash School
in person while I was travelling in the country.”
He added: “The village itself is very isolated and
it took three hours of travelling on unmade roads and dirt
tracks to reach Koremash from the capital, Addis Ababa. It
is a world away from facilities that we enjoy in the UK,
with no running water or electricity for anyone in the village
either at home or at school. Koremash School is about the
same size as Reigate Grammar School, in terms of number of
students, and they were delighted to receive the gifts from
their counterparts from over three and a half thousand miles
away.”
