Students host borough's
young at heart for Christmas celebration
Guests from five local retirement homes and elderly people
who are part of Reigate Grammar School’s ‘Home
Visit’ scheme were treated to entertainment and a
Christmas tea as sixth form students hosted their annual
Christmas party.
Musicians performed for their guests and while mince pies
and sherry flowed as the 60 guests enjoyed being waited on
by the school’s sixth form students. Additional entertainment
was provided by the 17 and 18 year old students who read
poetry, danced and sang songs from the school’s production
of Anything Goes.
Festive cheer abounded as Father Christmas flew in and gave
all of the guests a Christmas present before reciting The
Night Before Christmas. Many of the guests were friends invited
by students who regularly visit them throughout the year
as part of the school’s Community Service programme.
Commented Mrs Jan Spencer Ellis, Deputy Head of Sixth Form,
who helped the students organise the event: “Students
and staff always look forward to our annual Christmas party
and it is wonderful to pamper our guests, particularly at
this time of year when so much is geared towards the young.
We look forward to doing our bit to spread the joy of the
season and our guests certainly seemed to enjoy themselves.”
