The Peter Harrison Foundation Centre: end 2016

Reigate based charity, the Peter Harrison Foundation, has confirmed a £4 million donation to support a new state-of-the-art learning centre at the heart of the RGS campus.

The new centre will host a university quality learning-resource centre and a large flagship library with learning zones and e-readers. A new Sixth Form Centre with café, study area and social facilities allowing students to study, learn and relax will be included in the building. The new facilities will enable increased technology-rich learning for students of all ages and will be surrounded by landscaped gardens. Plans for the centre have been created by award winning architect Cindy Walters, from firm Walters and Cohen, who has focused on creating a beautiful, innovative building with an environmentally sustainable design.

Our extensive site combines the best of the school’s long heritage with modern, purpose-built facilities, positioned within a convenient close-to-town location. Recent expansions ensure our facilities continue to offer the best environment for learning.

RGS’ main site hosts the Library (which is staffed until 5pm each day) the Concert Hall, the Peter Masefield Hall (dining hall), The Ballance Building (our newly completed humanities and science centre), multimedia language lab, art and pottery studios, fully-equipped food technology room, design and technology workshops and the Sixth Form Centre with its own cafe. The school has four IT rooms plus dedicated IT facilities for the majority of departments. The purpose-built Music School houses a Mac suite and recording studio plus recital room. Also located at the main site are the sports hall and fitness suite; indoor 25 metre swimming pool and multi use games area. The large playground, orchard gardens and Broadfield Lawn offer an plenty of recreational space for students.

Our 32 acre sports ground, RGS Hartswood, includes rugby, hockey, cricket and football pitches, flood-lit astro-turf and large pavilion with changing facilities.
