British Fencing Championships

Last weekend, Luke Jones competed in the British Fencing Championships – Men’s Epee, along with 88 of the top fencers in the UK. All top fencers must attend this event to be considered for International selection.

Luke started this month with a GBR ranking of 94 and was ranked 55th in this competition. He won four of his six pool fights placing him 32nd at the end of this phase. He then went on to win his next three direct elimination fights, including a win against the event leader to progress to the quarter finals where he was eventually beaten by the British no. 7. Luke finished 8th overall which is a fantastic result.

When this result is combined with the 35th place finish he achieved at the Elite Epee event pre-Easter, (the largest open event in the UK), he should see a significant improvement in his British Ranking when recalculated at the end of the month.
