RGS Top Co-Ed School – Surrey Schools’ Swimming Relay

Last Saturday saw the RGS swimmers competing at the Surrey Schools’ Relay competition at the Guildford Spectrum in what proved to be a hugely successful evening. Not only did we improve on our medal tally from previous years, we also managed to come in Top Co-Educational school in Surrey!  This was the result of amazing performances from all swimmers, not just those who secured medals. Overall RGS secured seven team medals – one gold, three silver and three bronze.

Our Junior Boys (Elis K, Ioan K, Max J and Ali N) achieved bronze medals in the Medley and Freestyle Relay. Our Junior Girls (Abi C, Freya T, Eva M and Sara M) achieved a bronze in the Medley Relay and with Antonia H instead of Freya they came fourth in the Freestyle Relay.

Our Inter Relay competitors were our strongest for some time. The Girls took gold in the Freestyle Relay (Ruby J, Daisy G, Isabella H and Jemima P) and silver in the Medley Relay (Ruby, Daisy, Isabella and Clara Alston). The Boys achieved silver in both relays (Charlie J, Tomos K, Toby St and Alex MJ in the Freestyle and Charlie, Tomos, Toby and Lakith G in the Medley Relay).

Our Boys and Girls Seniors were both hit by injury but swam their socks off. They may not have achieved medal positions but, especially for a young team, we are extremely proud of the way they performed. The Girls team were Isabel W, Rachel J, Ashleigh S, Mary C and Amy B and the Boys were Hugh M, Scott J, Ben S and Owen K.

To top off an excellent evening we bumped in to Henry M who had returned with a gold medal from the Ascot Schools Biathlon. This is an outstanding achievement for Henry and the beaming smile on his face showed just how proud he was.

We won’t know until the end of October if the teams have qualified for the Nationals but we are hopeful, especially for the Inter Relay teams.  Fingers crossed!
