Who Wants To Be A Mathematician – UK Final
Friday 24 November saw the UK final of Who Wants to Be A Mathematician. Connie along with 3 other finalists from around the UK had beaten over 1100 other young people in previous rounds to secure their place in the live final which was held at Kings College London Mathematics School.
The event was hosted by stand-up mathematician Matt Parker (pictured above right) who entertained the finalists and the audience with the mathematics behind his new bathroom tiling, and we also enjoyed an interesting talk by Simon Singh (pictured above left), author, journalist and TV producer, who discussed the making of his BBC documentary on Fermat’s Last Theorem. Both Matt Parker and Simon Singh have recently delivered talks here at Reigate Grammar School.
The main event was of course the hotly contested final between 4 of the best young mathematicians in the country as they competed head to head in front of a live audience. It was extremely close with Connie being only 2 marks behind the eventual winner.
Congratulations to Connie for making it to the final and for her excellent performance on the day. Thank you to the Good Thinking Society and the University of Southampton for organising the competition and good luck to this rounds winner Yuji in the International Final.
