MUN: John Warner International Model United Nations Conference
On Saturday, a group of 24 RGS students from all year groups attended the eighth annual John Warner International Model United Nations Conference (JWSIMUN). With four delegations and six chairs, RGS’s cohort was feeling positive and enthusiastic about the day’s proceedings.
On the agenda were fascinating topics such as transgender rights, Tibet’s independence and the regulation of cryptocurrency. Not only did RGS students contribute to the debate significantly by passing numerous resolutions and even more amendments, they also came away victorious in terms of awards. In total RGS won three Highly Commended, four Distinguished Delegate and two Best Delegate awards.
A special mention must be made to first-time delegate Arun L who, despite being up against students much older than him, won Best Delegate in his committee! RGS also came away with an award in each of the three delegation award categories: Egypt won Highly Commended, Mexico Distinguished Delegate and Ethiopia Best Delegate!
This is the second year in a row that RGS has taken the plaque back to Reigate and students should be very proud of their ongoing and growing achievements. It should also be noted that each of the RGS chairs was recognized as being not only extremely knowledgeable but also incredibly kind and encouraging to all delegates.
Once again, a special mention must be given to Ben DF and George B who chaired with patience and quiet authority a very lively and heated Security Council. The RGS MUN team is growing both in size and ability every member should be commended.
