RGS Mathematicians Divide and Conquer
A crack team from RGS has secured a place in the Semi-Final of a prestigious mathematics competition after knocking out Kingston Grammar School 45 points to 39.
The Hans Woyda competition which is in its 39th year, attracts 64 teams from the South East. Each team consists of four students of different ages. They tackle geometry, algebra, trigonometry, probability, arrangements, calculus and mental arithmetic in head-to-head challenges and then work as a team to solve a longer problem.
The RGS team – Connie BS (Upper Sixth Form), Andrew H (Lower Sixth Form), Chris M (Fifth Form) and Lakith G (Third Form) – beat Kingston Grammar in the Quarter-Final of the southern section and will go on to the Semi-Finals later in the year.
Headmaster, Shaun Fenton, said:
“This national recognition in a prestigious competition is really pleasing and I am thrilled for our team. I send them hearty congratulations and wish them all the best for the next stage.”
