Swimming Success
On Friday 9 March the RGS U18 swimming teams travelled to the Olympic Park to take part in the U18 Independent Schools’ Bath Cup. Being an under 18 event, the majority of the other teams were older with our average age being 15 for the boys and 14 for the girls.
The boys swam exceptionally well, placing 17th in the freestyle relay and 14th in the medley relay and just missing out on a place in the final. They knocked 12 seconds off their freestyle time from last year and should be very proud of their achievement. Congratulations to Owen K, Patrick FJ, Charlie J and Toby S.
The girls got off to a flying start, qualifying for the final for the first time in the freestyle relay, and managed to place 4th overall, closely behind the medal winners – their new target for next year! In the medley relay, despite being tired, they again swam very well to reach the final and came in 9th place. Many congratulation to Ashleigh S, Ruby J, Daisy G, Issy H and Clara A.
On Saturday 10 March RGS swimmers took part in the Rotary Club Swimarathon and were very pleased to be supporting George and the Giant Pledge as their chosen charity. The Speed Race team took on some tough competition and were placed 2nd, just behind Dorking Masters, clocking 212 lengths (in a continuous 6 x 50m relay for 55 minutes).
Outside of the main speed race RGS had a boys and a girls team who were determined to beat each other! The girls swam first clocking 168 lengths and the boys chased their total with determination to eventually complete 170 lengths. Whilst justifiably proud of their achievements we are most pleased to have raised over £1000 for George and the Giant Pledge.
Well done to Ashleigh S, Patrick FJ, Tomos K, Ruby J, Charlie J, Daisy G, Megan C, Lily FJ, Annalise H, Jemima P, Emily W, Carlotta F, Theo J, Myles H, Elis K, Ioan K, Lukas K and Austin B.
