RGS Athletes head for National Finals glory
RGS’s Intermediate Girls’ Athletics team have qualified for the National Schools Athletics Finals for the second year in a row. 760 schools across the country competed in the preliminary stages and the RGS team is one of just 12 to go forward to the finals in Gateshead this July.
The Athletics Track and Field Cup is a national team competition in which each team’s athletes must compete in two events. Points are awarded for performance in the events and the team with the highest total points score is awarded the cup. In last year’s competition, the RGS Intermediate Girls finished top co-ed day school in the country and the team are excited to have qualified again for the finals of such a competitive event.
The Intermediate team is made up of girls from the third and fourth year. Team members are Katie M, Lily G, Lucy B, Issy H, Zoe M, Peggy W, Daisy G, Olivia H, Mia J, Freya T, Vicky W, Rosie B, Tally S, Clara A and Ellie OD.
Girls’ Games Teacher, Alison Davies, is delighted to be travelling to Gateshead with the team.
The girls have done amazingly and have pulled together to make this happen. They should be really proud of themselves.
Headmaster, Shaun Fenton, says
I am delighted to see the girls excelling at an event where success relies upon their sportsmanship and teamwork as well as their sporting talent. Sport is an integral part of the lives of students at RGS and an excellent way for them to develop skills outside the classroom. I wish them every success in Gateshead in July.
