The Mayor’s Debate

To coincide with the Wellbeing Festival and Mental Health Wellbeing Day on Tuesday 9 October the History and Politics Society took a group of 17 students, including co-chairs James D and Fraser C to Reigate and Banstead Council Chambers to take part in the inaugural Mayors’ Debate. The discussion centered around the issue of mental health and what local councils can do to improve mental health provision at both County and Borough Council level.

Everyone contributed to the group discussion which saw some well-thought out and clearly passionate views put forward. Local Councilors Curry and Lewanski (who kindly helped to introduce the initiative and organise the debate) were very impressed with how the debate went and how everyone involved presented their arguments and conducted themselves throughout. It is very much hoped that this will now become a regular event and an ongoing opportunity.
