English Schools’ Swimming Association National Championships Success

#TeamReigate had an excellent day at the English Schools’ Swimming Association National Championships last weekend.

RGS initially qualified top 30 for two events (senior and inter girls’ freestyle relay) and made the reserve list (31-35) for four others. Subsequently RGS secured entry to the senior and inter girls’ medley relays.

The senior girls had a tough day but gave it their all and were delighted to be involved in the occasion – the first ever RGS senior team to qualify. In the freestyle relay, Ashleigh S, Amy B, Ruby J and Daisy G placed 29th of the 141 schools, a fantastic achievement. Daisy G, Katie D, Ashleigh S and Ruby J were unfortunately disqualified due to a technical infringement on the backstroke in the medley, but they still made it to the event from 140 entrants.

The inter girls were on fire! They qualified for the freestyle relay in 15th place and swam their socks off in the heat to qualify 10th, winning a spot in the Final. Their target from that point was just to enjoy themselves! They swam a superb relay, finishing 8th from the 231 schools that entered.

Having picked up the medley relay just four days earlier the girls were determined to go home ranked higher than the 30th place they had scraped in with. They gave their all to beat six other schools and place 24th out of the 241 original entrants. The same four girls did both relays – Lauren D, Issy H, Clara A and Jemima P.

Congratulations to the whole team on a remarkable event.
