A Celebration of Cultures

May 21st featured in the 2019 international calendar as the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development. The concept of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) was celebrated at RGS through a variety of events. The organisation believes that Cultural diversity is a driving force of development, not only with respect to economic growth, but also as a means of leading a more fulfilling intellectual, emotional, moral and spiritual life. Inspired by this vision for peace, stability and development of our Nations, staff and students were encouraged to celebrate enrichment through differences in their nationalities, heritage and cultures as well as those in the wider community. Form times gave students the opportunity to play quizzes, enter into discussions and read news articles which raised awareness about cultural diversity.

During RGS’s cultural diversity week, Lower and Upper School assembly audiences were given presentations from students on highlighted influential cultures in the UK. George A spoke about East Asian culture and World Taekwondo, Jack R played Spanish guitar and Diya P performed an Indian dance.

This was a wonderful week in celebration of the enrichment cultural diversity brings to the RGS community and beyond.
