Summer Concert

The evening sun shone for the Summer Concert at St Mary’s Church on Thursday as many of the school’s younger musicians entertained a large audience with a great variety of performances.

There were a number of lighter pop-inspired items, including a touching rendition of Blackbird by Archie C (Lower Sixth Form), accompanied by the excellent Guitar Ensemble; a new First Form band, comprising Oscar L-D, Yerin H, Omar A and Annis W confidently performing their own original song; the massed Junior Voices who performed the uplifting Little Talks with band; and the newly-formed Swing Band 2, who started the evening in style, with a lively performance of Tequila, involving energetic audience participation.

There was also refined chamber music, featuring Zach S (Second Form) at the piano in the Mozart Quintet for piano and winds, and movements from the Albinoni Oboe Concerto, with exquisite solo playing from Josie W (Second Form). Brass and Percussion Ensembles also entranced the audience with precision performances and the Sinfonia once again showed their commitment and confidence in Havana at the end of the event.

Congratulations to all the performers on a terrific evening’s entertainment.
