Jersey Cricket tour 2019

This year’s U12 and U13s Jersey Cricket tour saw 28 students making the short flight out to the Channel Islands over May half-term. The U12s, having left at lunchtime, were able squeeze their first match in in that evening – a thrilling two run defeat in a T20 match with Victoria College. The U13s arrived in time to see the end of that match, before both teams enjoyed the first of many excellent meals at our hotel.

Saturday morning’s matches for both sides ended in victories against De La Salle. The afternoon was spent in the capital, St Helier, where the groups enjoyed a well-contested beach football tournament followed in the evening be an equally competitive quiz night.

Sunday saw further matches, the U12s recording another victory against Farmer’s CC and the U13s losing to Victoria College, largely owing to one strong batsman who scored 100. After the cricket, another chance to look around the capital was followed by a visit to a water park. A games evening saw tourists learning new games like cribbage, and playing other games like ‘sleeping lions’ and perudo.

On Monday #TeamReigate took longer matches against the Jersey Islands sides. Although, the U13s managed to get the centurion from VC out, they lost closely. The U12s achieved an excellent win. On Tuesday, we played the same opposition, the U12s losing by eight runs in another thriller, whilst the U13s put in an exceptional performance to beat Jersey in a declaration game.

Before the flight home there was enough time to visit a WW2 fort and enjoy ice-creams. Well done to all who took part on a really successful and enjoyable tour.
