Students deliver the best GCSE results in RGS’s history!

After last week’s record-breaking A Level results, another crop of exceptional exam grades has arrived at RGS.

Individually
  • Typical grade profile is nine or ten 8s
  • 68 students have ten GCSEs at 8 or above – our best ever
Collectively
  • Almost two thirds of grades are at 9 or 8 (A*) – our best ever
  • 9s made up over a third of all grades received – our best ever
  • Nearly 9 out of 10 grades at 9-7 – our best ever

Headmaster Shaun Fenton said:

“These grades are outstanding on their own, but when combined with the Fifth Form’s wonderful qualities of character and their achievements outside the classroom, they are truly remarkable.

These pupils have looked after each other as good friends, they have raised money for charity, helped with community projects and been committed to environmental initiatives.

This year group has also had notable successes in sports and the arts, and includes top-class swimmers, squash players, award winning actors, a member of the National Youth Orchestra, leading cadets, DofE award winners. and International and County players in sports as varying from badminton to hockey.”

Amongst amazing STEM grades and record-breaking English results, students achieved 100% top grades in a wonderful variety of subjects: Art, Computing, Physical Education, Food & Nutrition, Greek, German, ICT, Latin, Statistics, Music and Philosophy & Theology.

Languages were particularly strong with 90% or more in Spanish, French, Greek, German, and Latin. This bodes well for the introduction of Mandarin across the school from September 2019.

As Sixth Formers, these students and those joining from other local schools will now move to the coveted Harrison Centre with its university-grade library and learning centre plus café, study area, innovation room, terrace and gardens. The Sixth Form environment at RGS is clearly the ideal bridge to Higher Education, as shown by last week’s A Level successes, when 95% of students held offers to Oxbridge, Russell Group universities or Medical School.
