Evensong at St Paul’s Cathedral

The RGS Godfrey Searle choristers were delighted to have the opportunity to renew the historical ties between them and St Paul’s Cathedral this week, with a choral evensong at the cathedral on Monday. During the Second World War, following the evacuation of the St Paul’s choristers, the RGS choristers travelled to London to sing evensong every month throughout the war.

It was especially pleasing to see some of RGS’s chorister alumni and friends attend the event. The combined choirs of Polyphony and the RGS Godfrey Searle choir sang beautifully to the largest Cathedral congregation we’ve ever performed in front of! The repertoire included the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis by Brewer in D major with the anthem, Beati Quorum Via by Stanford.

It is hoped that this will become an annual event providing an amazing opportunity for our choral singers.
