RGS Chemists Top of the Bench

Leila B, Ellie B, Oli F, and Thomas K achieved a brilliant fifth place nationally in the Royal Society of Chemistry Top of the Bench competition. The first of two rounds was the regionals where the team competed against all other teams in Surrey and Sussex, one of the most competitive areas in the country. They performed brilliantly at both the online test and the assessed practical, scoring an overall total of 102/140 which meant that they won the heat (the next highest score was 94!).

Their regional win saw them through to the national final along with 29 other teams. Held in school, just before Easter, the event consisted of an online test (the practical test was dropped due to Covid). Again they performed really well, showing their collective ability to think through different styles of problem as well as showing a deep understanding of Chemistry.
