Issy H triathlon success in Wales

Opportunities for competition and training have been severely restricted over the past year thanks to the pandemic, so it is great to see RGS athletes back at it. Triathlete Issy H has managed to keep on top of her training and as a result had a great race at the Sospan Sprint triathlon in Llanelli.

Having moved in to the Junior age group category, Issy’s distances have now doubled to 800m swim, 20k bike and 5k run. She was the youngest in the U20’s age group but still managed to gain sixth place nationally, narrowly missing out on a place in the European championships by three places. This is a very promising start, especially given she has two more years competing in this category.

Issy was racing with elite athletes and the U23’s which included three Tokyo Olympics competitors, one of whom is the world champion and Rio 2016 Olympic Bronze medallist; Issy finished just six minutes behind her! Against the whole field, Issy, the youngest entrant, placed 25th nationally.
