National Biathlon Success

Over the weekend of 16th & 17th October, 20 RGS students travelled to Bath to take part in the 2021 Pentathlon GB School Biathlon National Finals. It was a fabulous venue and a wonderful experience for all the students with a number having their first taste of a national competition.

On Saturday we had 12 girls taking part. All girls put in great performances and despite their nerves, they performed well in the pool and on the track.

U13 Emma B (80th), U12 Sienna C (33rd), U12 Erin H (41st), and U12 Rithika K (64th) were taking part for the first time and should be incredibly proud of themselves. Emma B was one of the youngest in her age group and competing against many students of 3rd form age (birth years rather than school years). Megan R did very well to achieve 28th place at U13. All these girls should be proud of how well they did and were a credit to RGS. The U12 girls placed 6th/18 Teams which is very impressive!

Our greatest successes in terms of positions and medals came with the Seniors. The organisers were very impressed with the RGS support and team spirit, as we cheered every runner over the line and also supported students from other schools.

U15 Gabi H (2nd), U16 Eva M (1st), U17 Issy H (1st), U17 Clara A (2nd), and U17 Lily F-J (15th). Our success in the U17 event meant the girls were crowned U17 National Team Champions. In the U19 event, Jemima P came 6th and Millie W 7th. It was incredible to have five U6th students taking part. They will leave a Biathlon Legacy for years to come.

On Sunday, we had eight boys taking part.

In the U13, we saw a strong performance from Sam A (12th), Kiran M (52nd) and Michael R (54th). Kiran’s gutsy performance should be a video of how to dig deep and give it all you’ve got over the last 200m! Overall, they were the 4th placed team at U13. U14 saw Gregor B put in two solid performances to be placed 25th.

U15 Brayden J did very well in his first Biathlon and was placed 5th with Gusie L 25th. U16 Lukas K was 8th and at U17 James C placed 9th.

It was a wonderful experience for all our athletes.
