RGS students achieve record breaking best ever GCSE exam results

Qualities of character are always more important than a fistful of grades and Reigatians engage in environmental projects, volunteering, charity work, peer mentoring, community projects, teaching primary school children in master classes, the Arts, Duke of Edinburgh awards, performing on stage, compete in over 20 sports, dozens of music concerts each year, the cadets, trips around the UK and the world, Model United Nations, debating, public speaking and an extensive programme of co-curricular activities. Yet, our GCSE students have followed last week’s record breaking A Level results by again achieving the best GCSE exam results in the school’s history.

• Over half of all grades are level 9
• 79% of grades are 9 or 8
• Over nine out of every ten grades are 9-7
• 51 students have all their GCSEs entirely at 8 or 9
• The typical grade profile of a Reigatian in 2022 is 5 grade 9s and five grade 8s.

Headmaster Shaun Fenton says,

“I could not be more delighted with these young Reigatians, well-educated not just well-qualified, they have done so well. They surprise me in all that they achieve, whether it be today with this fantastic set of results, or throughout the school year on the sports field, drama performances, spectacular music concerts, community engagement programmes and in other adventures such as DofE and the CCF.

I am excited to see these boys and girls continue their studies into the RGS Sixth Form. What a couple of years awaits: they will benefit from our super Harrison Centre with its university-style library and superb Sixth Form Centre and café where they will have fun, work hard and develop into young adults ready for their exciting future at university, degree apprenticeships and beyond.”

Today’s results are the best GCSE grades that Reigatians have ever achieved, and these results will enable students to access a wide range of A Level and BTEC courses at RGS and elsewhere. Students achieved 100% top grades (9-7) in a wonderful variety of subjects including Art, Classical Civilisation, Food & Nutrition, German, Latin, Music and Spanish.

We have established a new Director of Sixth Form position to develop further our successful, holistic Sixth Form curriculum and we welcome Mrs Elizabeth Taylor to this senior post. Not only is the Sixth Form environment at RGS a natural bridge to higher education, it also gives huge advantages when applying to competitive universities, as demonstrated by last week’s A Level success, with 96% of RGS students’ receiving offers to Russell Group, top universities, Oxbridge and medical school. RGS students are receiving more offers to world class universities than ever before.

For four years in a row, Reigate Grammar School has been named School of the Year in a range of awards and categories from leading industry and education bodies, including as senior school of the year, for our pastoral care, for our social mobility and our engagement with the community.
