Inspiring Minds: Sir Vince Cable at RGS

Yesterday, we were delighted to welcome Sir Vince Cable for the first talk in our RGS: Inspiring Minds series.

Over 150 members of the Reigate community attended, including students from other local schools. Sir Vince delivered a captivating talk based on his book How to be a Politician and shared fascinating insights from his research as a lecturer at LSE.

He explored modern political ideologies, examined why politicians are often perceived as untrustworthy, and outlined the diverse skills required to succeed as an MP and minister.

During the Q&A session, expertly led by Upper Sixth students Henry and Tom, the audience posed thought-provoking questions on topics such as the impact of social media on UK politics, the future direction of the Conservative Party, aspects of foreign political systems that the UK could adopt and the fairness of UK elections.

Sir Vince’s passionate and anecdotal responses left the audience inspired and eager for more.

We are already looking forward to the next RGS: Inspiring Minds event on 11th March 2025.

Stay tuned for more details!
