RGS Summer Festival Concert 2016
The Summer Concert on Thursday 26 May featured a wide range of musicians from First to Fourth Form, performing a varied programme, including rock, pop, baroque, classical, romantic, music theatre and jazz styles! Ensembles of percussionists, strings, singers, brass, clarinets and guitars rose to the occasion with some engaging and highly accomplished performances, led by the specialist visiting music teachers.
Special mention should also go to the soloists who wowed the audience with their passionate playing and their sense of composure: Bernadette C-W, Freya B, Estuardo D A, Sophia H, Rosalind A, Lakith G, Isabel A, and in particular Gabriele B, who produced an outstanding rendition of the first movement from Mendelssohn’s violin concerto, and Zara B, who was the star soprano soloist with the choir. Many of the students combined to form a Summer Orchestra, who performed Tchaikovsky that was refined and also powerful under the direction of Richard Hare, and Batman Blues which was a great crowd-pleaser! The Intermediate String Orchestra played stylish Handel in a very disciplined performance, and singers combined to form a Summer Choir, which produced an electric sound in a rousing finale of highlights from Les Miserables. The musical future of the school is very exciting with such talented and enthusiastic performers coming through!
