Sixth Form

At Reigate Grammar School, we believe that the Sixth Form should be a time for serious study alongside extensive opportunities for enrichment.

We therefore offer our students the chance to excel academically at the same time as developing their leadership skills and experiencing a wide range of activities and opportunities across a variety of areas and disciplines.

Obtaining excellent qualifications and developing a love of a subject and learning are fundamental aims but these are balanced with developing personal qualities and characteristics through involvement in activities such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme, the Combined Cadet Force, Music, Drama and Sport, as well as our extensive co-curricular clubs, talks and societies programme.

Our academic curriculum focusses on A Levels, however, all students in the Lower Sixth Form have the opportunity to study an academic topic of their choice from beyond the A Level courses with our bespoke co-curricular programme – Henry Smith Studies. In the Upper Sixth Form, the 7Plus transition course helps to develop the skills and character needed for life after RGS. The transition from GCSE to A Level and from A Level to university and professional life are both challenging ones but we ensure that all of our students are well prepared and supported.

The Sixth Form prides itself on taking the lead in the school and the local community and all members of the Sixth Form are invited to take up leadership positions. Leadership in the Sixth Form at Reigate Grammar School means offering Sixth Form students opportunities for not only responsibility but also creativity, enterprise and project management. Our Senior Prefect, House leadership and mentoring programmes are open to all Sixth Formers and are of great value to the entire school community.

Pastoral care and the nurturing of all aspects of the student is a key responsibility of the school and something in which we take great pride and care. All Sixth Formers are placed in a small form group of no more than fourteen. The form tutor will be a subject specialist from one of the subjects the student has chosen to study for A Level. Students are with their tutors for the two years of Sixth Form and together they help to develop a bespoke Personal Development Plan in which each student plots where they would like to be by the time they leave us at the end of their Upper Sixth year.

However, above all, the Sixth Form is a tolerant, supportive and diverse community and we are very fortunate to have a state of the art Sixth Form Centre with incredible learning resources, social spaces and a café that ensure all Sixth Formers learn and collaborate in engaging surroundings.

If you are a current member of our Fifth Form, please talk to our Sixth Form or a member of the Sixth Form team. If you are not yet with us, do come and visit us to see and hear for yourself; we would be pleased to show you why we believe the RGS Sixth Form might be the perfect A Level education for you.

“Choosing Reigate Grammar School for Sixth Form has been a truly excellent decision. From being part of the astonishing Drama to being able to draw on the fantastic academic support. RGS fully accepted me and made my time here the most enjoyable of my school years.”

“Transitioning to a new school is always difficult but the systems in place at Reigate Grammar School help to make the move as easy and enjoyable as possible. With a ‘buddy’ to help you find your way and get into the swing of school life there is always someone to turn to for help or advice. The lines between existing and ‘external’ students quickly blur and opportunities for leadership, involvement in Sport, Drama and academic activities are open to all. My time at RGS has been filled with once in a lifetime opportunities which have helped me to not only make lifelong friendships but to become a fully integrated member of the school as a Senior Prefect, member of Hockey and Netball teams and Chair of the Charity Committee – something I am very grateful for.”

Sophie Gunning – Millais School

I had an amazing time at RGS – the best 2 years. Good atmosphere, great sport and great teaching. The lessons were interesting and engaging and whilst the teachers do put you under pressure, it’s not too much to handle. School took the necessary measures to keep me on track and help me get the grades I needed. They really did think of everything and the rest was up to me.
