Dance Choreography Slam

On Tuesday 23 May we held the now annual Choreography Slam at RGS. This was a fantastic celebration of dance and original choreography by students at RGS. Miss Hare organised the event with the support of Mr Edwards on technical support. Professional choreographer Hannah Gunning was invited to adjudicate the performances which included styles as diverse as Indian Dance, Ballet, Acro, Ballroom, Tap, Contemporary, Irish and Street.

There were mentions for Best Original Choreography and Best Dance Performance. Puvaja Sivakumar won the performance prize with a compelling Indian dance routine that she had choreographed herself. Caspar Meurisse won Best Original Choreography with his ballet/contemporary style dance to a piece called ‘Pursuit’ from Sherlock. Hana Bashir was second with a highly skilled Acro piece, with Bella Pisarski and Eva Marsh coming third in the performance category with a sassy pop-style duet. Krishe Thevarajah, Beth Savill and  Zara Brotzel placed second for Original Choreography with their imaginative trio in a pop/commercial style, with the duo of Eloise Joukador and Alex Jeffries coming third. The standard of performance and choreography was outstanding across the board and it was an incredibly entertaining evening for the audience.

We were thrilled to be hosting this event and our RGS Dance Club entertained the audience with a sophisticated street dance routine taught by Fith Form student Georgia Rushby. Georgia will be going on to study and pursue a career in dance. We also welcomed the RSM dancers to perform alongside the new RGS Dance group. Thanks  go to to Nicola Petersen-Jones and Rebecca Barrett for teaching and coordinating these students. The evening was made by the support of the audience and the creativity and dedication of RGS students who prepared imaginative and entertaining work for us to enjoy.
