Early success for Girls’ Hockey
We may only be a few weeks into the new school year but the Girls’ Hockey teams are already shining.
U18 Girls Hockey
On Tuesday 26 September the RGS U18 Girls’ Hockey team qualified for Surrey Finals Day by coming top of their pool, undefeated and without conceding a single goal in the Surrey heats. Having played St Johns, Epsom and Priorsfield, they now go on to play in next Wednesday’s finals where we hope they will qualify for the Regional round. They’ve made an amazing start and we wish them luck in the next game.
U16 Girls Hockey
On Thursday 28 September RGS’ U16 Girls’ team also qualified for Surrey Finals Day and, as with our U18s, they did it in style coming top of their pool and undefeated in the Surrey heats. Having played St Teresa’s and Cranleigh, they now go on to play in next Tuesday’s finals and hopefully move on to the Regional round. Well done and good luck!
U12As 3rd in Lingfield College Tournament
Just one week in, RGS’ Girls’ U12A side played their first ever tournament and came away in 3rd place having played some of the best teams in Surrey and Sussex. In what was a tough first competition and steep learning curve, their skills were put to the test, with them even having to complete a penalty shuffles in both the semifinals and finals! This was a great first experience and we look forward to following their progress as the team develops.
U12Bs 1st in Lingfield College B Team Tournament
The Lingfield College B Team Tournament in the first week of term was a brilliant opportunity for our U12B team to play together and learn a huge amount in a very short space of time. Not only that, they came away with the gold medal – not a bad effort in their first ever tournament!
To achieve this the girls had to take on and beat the best B teams and some A teams from Surrey and Sussex. They also had to overcome nerves during penalty shuffles to get the crucial winning results. Well done to all.
