Concerts and Chocolates in Belgium
Over half term, the music department took instrumental players representing the Symphony Orchestra and Concert Band to Ghent in Belgium for 4 nights.
The performers ranged from First form to Upper Sixth, and formed a close bond on the tour. The accommodation featured spectacular views across the river, and was ideally located for walking into the historic city centre.
Concerts took place at cathedrals in Ghent, Brussels and Bruges, and a programme of music from Handel to Holst was performed to appreciative audiences of locals, tourists and some of our own RGS parents. The concert venues were hugely inspiring and the acoustics enviable. Featured soloists were Zac S, Freya B, Milo S, Josie W, Lakith G and Anna A, and all represented RGS brilliantly.
In between rehearsals at the Ghent Music Academy and cathedral concerts, the group visited the Atomium in Brussels – a major attraction constructed for the world fair – and enjoyed an authentic chocolatier’s demonstration, as well as numerous Belgian waffles and hot chocolates. A memorable musical and cultural experience for all.
