Footballing success for Henry R and AFC Wimbledon

Congratulations to Henry R of First Form who recently represented AFC Wimbledon as part of their 2005 age group team (combined u12 and u13 squad) in The Gallini Cup in Italy. AFC Wimbledon won all three group games then beat Italian Serie A Academy Spal in the quarter final and Azerbaijan Club Gabala in the semi-final. They drew 1-1 with Italian Serie A Academy Udinese in the final, unfortunately losing 5-4 on penalties.

A week after returning from Italy the same AFC Wimbledon team competed in the final stage of Chelsea’s U13 Cobham Cup. Teams compete in regions across England and Wales to qualify for the finals at Cobham. AFC Wimbledon won their group and beat Notts Forest 3-0 in the semi-final to go on and meet Chelsea in the final. AFC Wimbledon ended up runners up losing 1-0 to a very good Chelsea Team which was a great performance considering Wimbledon had 5 U12 players in an U13 tournament.
