St John’s College, Oxford, Classics and Ancient History Essay Competition
Congratulations to Emma S on her success in the St John’s College, Oxford, Classics and Ancient History Essay Competition. Emma achieved a Highly Commended grade for her essay How can we write Graeco-Roman history from the point of view of the poor? This meant that Emma’s essay was ranked in the top eight of 156 entries. In recognition of her achievement, Emma was invited to a study day and St John’s College, Oxford on Thursday 19 April, where she attended a series of talks called Interactions with the Gods.
Emma had this to say about the experience.
“The day at Oxford very enjoyable and informative. I really loved the lectures from college staff, which covered topics from Plato’s Euthyphro to divination in Roman politics, and there were opportunities to talk to current students about life at Oxford and the application process, which was very useful! Special thanks to Mr Ingham, for informing me about the competition and giving me lots of helpful advice on how to improve my various drafts, as well as the whole RGS Classics department for the help which they gave me.”
Well done Emma!
