Drama Monoslam

The annual RGS Drama Monoslam took place on Thursday in the new Drama Studio. The competition saw students from the First and Second Form perform monologues for a panel of judges from the world of professional theatre.

The standard was exceptionally high, with pieces ranging from Barton to Shakespeare, from Wonder to Funny Girl and the judges commented on how well prepared and confident all the performances were. Edie W was awarded the overall prize for best performance for her excellent rendition of Gemma Brogan from the play Junk, and Mariyah R, Sasha H and Finley M also received prizes for their performances. All performers received detailed feedback from the judges. The evening was brilliantly hosted by Fourth Formers Liberty T and Emma B, and rounded off with an excellent performance from Sixth Form student Lauren K

One of the judges for the Monoslam was Tom McCarron who led a workshop earlier in the day for Sixth Form students applying to drama school. Tom is on the audition panel at the Birmingham School of Acting, and he gave them advice and tips, as well as a masterclass working with them on their performances.

On Friday, members of the cast of the Christmas production of Les Miserables were treated to a stage combat workshop with fight choreographer Matt Burns
