Girls’ Rugby 7s Development Day

On Friday 24 February we hosted the second girls’ rugby development day at Hartswood in partnership with UR7’s. There were over 300 girls in attendance from more than 30 different schools from the South East region in a mix of three different age groups – U14, U16 and U18. The structure of the day was aimed at introducing some to the game for the first time and to provide competition of varying levels. Touch rugby was played initially for many of the teams but over the course of the day all teams progressed to games involving tackling. UR7’s ran masterclass sessions for teams throughout the day including sessions with Tom Mitchell (Ex England and GB Men’s 7s captain and Olympic Silver medallist) where he was able to impart some of his vast experience to the girls.  The Reigate girls were first class all day and improved tremendously over the course of the day.  We now build towards the national 7’s at the end of term for all three age groups.
