SATRO AS Maths Challenge
Ayan S, Jack W-S, JunWoo K, Alhuman A and Dan W headed to St Peter’s Catholic School in Guildford recently to represent RGS in the SATRO AS Maths Challenge. SATRO is an educational charity and social enterprise which has been working with young people in Surrey and the south east for over 30 years and this challenge presented an opportunity for teams of exceptional mathematicians to pitch their wits against other schools.
There was a noticeable buzz of excitement in the mini-bus on the way to the competition venue as our five mathematicians completed some last minute puzzle solving practice and spirits were elevated further on arrival at St Peter’s where teams were met by a vast table of biscuits.
The challenge required students to use their teamwork skills as well as their mathematical brains to tackle two rounds of puzzles and then the competitors were given an inspirational talk from a representative of the competition’s sponsors, Fluor Corporation, who discussed the opportunities available to young people to use their passion for mathematics in their future careers.
Huge congratulations to the RGS team who finished in a very respectable 11th position overall.
