Pastoral care

RGS is well known for its warm, welcoming atmosphere. Strong pastoral care is at the heart of the supportive community that staff and students value.

The school is divided into sections with each small, distinct unit led by a Head of Section who, along with their team of Form Tutors, takes responsibility for the welfare of each student:

  • Upper School:  Third, Fourth and Fifth Forms (Years 9, 10 & 11)

Each section has its own assemblies and events ensuring pupils enjoy being part of a small unit while still benefiting from the opportunities provided by a larger school. Form Tutors see pupils daily to provide any care or support they may need.

New students are welcomed into the school at whatever age they join. Each First Form student has a Sixth Form mentor with whom they meet weekly throughout their first year plus they have a Second Form buddy who also helps them find their way around and encourages them to join clubs and explore existing and new interests at school. The School Chaplaincy provides both a listening service, staffed by teachers trained in listening and counselling, and a peer support service offering students the opportunity talk through any issue with trained fellow students.

The school also has an independent, BACP Accredited/Registered Counsellor and Psychotherapist providing a flexible school counselling service for students and staff.
