Product Design

Design and Technology is a vast subject area and this is reflected in the breadth of this Product Design course.

Students are given the opportunity to explore their own interests in all areas of design through the taught curriculum and their own self-directed study. They will develop their skills and knowledge of materials, processes and techniques in theory and in practice.

What is Product Design?
In every part of your life you are surrounded by products that have been designed and made. In this consumer society it is impossible to escape the impact of Product Design. During the course students will be encouraged to develop critical thinking and to observe relationships with the designer, the manufacturer, the user and the world. Research and development are vital parts of the design process and will support the making of quality products.

Which careers could I go into with A Level Product Design?

Engineering, Architecture, IT, Advertising, Film, Interior design, Fashion Design, Graphic Design, Furniture Design, Marketing and many more. Those with other interests and aspirations would benefit from the transferable skills inherent in the course including problem solving, IT, communication, team work and independent learning.

Expectations
Over the 2 year course you will be expected to maintain high standards in both your practical and theory based units. This course is ideal for creative, innovative and committed students.
