At Reigate Grammar School, the wellbeing of our pupils is at the very heart of school life.

We believe that a great education means more than just excellent academic results, it means creating a nurturing, supportive environment where every child feels known, valued, and understood. Our award-winning pastoral care programme is central to that mission. From the moment a child joins us, we focus on helping them grow not only in knowledge but also in confidence, compassion, and resilience.

The school genuinely puts pupils at the centre, with outstanding pastoral care.

Building Resilience & Fulfilment

Wellbeing is at the core of everything we do at RGS. We want to help students to find their own balance and fulfilment in our busy community. Wellbeing is about much more than happiness; it is about understanding how our bodies and minds work and then learning to look after ourselves through the natural ups and downs of life.

We actively encourage students to step outside their comfort zone, learning what happens when they have to fall back on their own resources. Sometimes they will get things right and sometimes they will get things wrong but always within our safe and secure environment, with experienced staff on hand to offer support and guidance.

Personalised Support and Welcoming Community

Visitors often comment on the uniquely warm and welcoming atmosphere at RGS. Pupils are kind, inclusive, and respectful, and they thrive in an environment where pastoral care is a shared responsibility across the school.

Whether a pupil is navigating a challenge or simply needs a space to talk, our network of support is always there, ensuring they feel safe, supported and empowered.

The dedicated wellbeing centre houses the Learning Support department, pastoral staff and the Snug, a quiet space with sofas and bean bags where students can find moments of calm.

The exam results are undeniably impressive, but even more so is the constant and genuine care for the children throughout the school.

Wellbeing Woven into School Life

Wellbeing is integrated into daily life at RGS through our thoughtful PSHEE curriculum, dedicated staff, and wide range of activities that nurture personal growth. Pupils learn about everything from emotional intelligence and self-care to financial literacy, digital safety and global citizenship.

Our Wellbeing Centre provides a calm, supportive space focused on positive mental health and neurodiversity, ensuring every student has the tools and guidance to thrive in their own way.

Consistent with its general ethos of tolerance and acceptance, inclusivity is in this school's DNA.

Support for Students and Families Alike

At RGS, we believe that education is a partnership, one built on trust, open communication, and shared care. Our pastoral team and teaching staff are always available to support not only our students but their families too. We place great value on the relationships we build with parents, who are very much part of their child’s journey through school.

There are many opportunities for parents to engage with school life, from attending wellbeing workshops and Time to Chat sessions, to joining discussions around mental health, adolescent development, and digital safety. And of course, we love welcoming families to cheer on their children in concerts, plays, sports matches and school events. This strong sense of community ensures that every pupil feels supported both at school and at home.

This is a strong, welcoming community where children from many different schools and backgrounds come together and thrive.

A Culture of Kindness and Respect

Events such as our Kindness Festival and Cultural Awareness Week bring the school community together and celebrate empathy, compassion, and inclusion. From Random Acts of Kindness to student-led cultural exhibitions, these events promote understanding and pride in the diverse backgrounds that enrich our school.

Pupils are keenly aware that they are experiencing a tolerant, kind, respectful, supportive environment, where both challenge and collaboration are encouraged and valued… Every child has someone they can talk to.

Care at Every Stage of School Life

RGS is divided into three main stages, each with its own dedicated Head of Year who stay with students as they progress through the school. This ensures strong, trusting relationships and a sense of stability throughout their school journey.

Each section enjoys its own events and assemblies, creating a smaller, close-knit community feel within the wider school.
