Sixth Formers don’t just take part – they help shape the whole school.

Leadership and enrichment are at the heart of Sixth Form life at Reigate Grammar School. Whether it is running a club, leading a committee, launching a legacy project or mentoring younger students, RGS Sixth Formers are given the freedom and responsibility to make their mark.

Every Sixth Former is encouraged to take on a role, contribute to the community, and grow in confidence, initiative and independence. Leadership at RGS  is about action, creativity and contribution. It’s about stepping forward and making a difference.

Growing Leaders, Building Legacies

Committees and Leadership for All

In Lower Sixth, every student takes on a leadership role within one of our core committees. These include:

  • Academic
  • Sport
  • EDI (Equality, Diversity & Inclusion)
  • Wellbeing
  • House
  • Music
  • Global Village
  • E-Sports

Each committee meets weekly to plan events, shape school culture and develop initiatives. Students receive weekly leadership training delivered by the Sixth Form team, covering topics such as communication, teamwork, organisation, and strategic planning.

RGS Future Leaders Programme

Students can also opt into the RGS Future Leaders course, an additional enrichment programme for those who want to take their leadership journey further. It includes:

  • Real-world project work
  • Networking with industry leaders
  • Training in leadership styles, self-awareness, and professional conduct
  • Final graduation for those who complete the programme

In 2024, over 30 students graduated from this programme.

Head Students & Prefects

Our Senior Prefect team and Heads of School are appointed based on their committee contributions and leadership throughout the year. These students also receive external training with leadership specialists and help mentor younger students in the Upper School Leadership Diploma.

Leadership here is earned, supported and celebrated and its impact is felt across the school.

Enrichment Through Action

RGS Sixth Form life is bursting with co-curricular opportunities, many of them student-led:

Whether you want to lead, create, organise or inspire, there is room for every voice and we will help you develop the skills to lead with purpose and confidence.

Trips, Talks & Experiences

Our Sixth Formers broaden their horizons through local, national and international opportunities, including:

  • Cultural and academic trips to Washington DC, New York, Paris, Iceland, Dubai and more
  • Leadership visits and conferences
  • The RGS Inspiring Minds speaker series — recent guests include Sir Vince Cable
  • Specialist career networking events, often student-led
  • Participation in the RGS Talks Festival of public speaking and ideas

It’s also about fun!

From the Winter Formal to the Leavers’ Day Fairground, Sixth Form life includes celebration, friendship and fun. There are:

  • Regular informal socials and café events
  • Sixth Form–only trips
  • The Winter Formal and the Leavers’ Ball

We believe enrichment should be as much about fun, belonging and shared memories as it is about skills and CVs.

Ready to lead?

We believe that the Student leadership programme helps to bridge the gap between school and professional life, providing our students with the tools they need to succeed in later life.
