Upon entering the school, students are assigned to a House and a smaller House family, which includes around twenty students spanning different age groups. Siblings are placed in the same House.

House Structure

The four Houses are named after former Headmasters:

Each House is led by a team of six Upper Sixth Form students who are guided by Heads of House and House staff.

House Assemblies

Assemblies take place each week and are a mixture of whole House assemblies and those held in House families.

New Students

New students are allocated a buddy from within their House family and all First Form students will also have an Upper Sixth Form Mentor.

Student Voice

Houses aim to increase the student voice at RGS, many ideas are discussed and put forward as students often feel more confident holding discussions in the small family groups.

Leadership Development

The House system emphasises leadership qualities such as compassion, creativity, teamwork, resilience, reflection, respect, and responsibility. Students can demonstrate these through various House events, including sports, singing, drama, art, quizzes and more.

Charity Initiatives

Each House supports an endangered animal and raises funds for a chosen charity. Recent beneficiaries include Great Ormond Street, St Catherine’s Hospice, Meningitis Now, and Live at Home.
