Drama is a powerful tool for building confidence, creativity, collaboration and critical thinking - skills that benefit students both in and out of the classroom. From the first lessons in Year 7 to performing on national stages, drama is a valued and celebrated part of life at RGS.
A Journey Through Drama at RGS
Co-Curricular Drama
Drama at RGS is dynamic and inclusive, with a packed programme of performances and events across the year. Recent productions include Shakespeare in Love, Treasure Island, Peter Pan and every year offers something new.
Co-curricular highlights include:
- 3–4 major productions each year
- Studio performances and exam showcases
- Musical theatre in collaboration with the Music Department
- Drama and dance clubs for various year groups
- Monologue and choreography competitions
- Masterclasses with industry professionals
- Training in technical theatre, with all productions run by students
- National theatre trips (25+ per year) and regular guest speakers

Facilities
The Drama Department is housed in two fully equipped black box studios and a third multi-purpose space with a recording studio, costume workshop and props store. Main school productions take place in the versatile Concert Hall, which can be adapted for both intimate performances and large-scale musicals, or at external venues such Leatherhead Theatre or The Ambassadors Theatre, London.
Scholarships and Opportunities
Drama scholarships are available at 11+, 13+ and 16+. Scholars are supported to develop their performance and leadership skills, with regular mentoring and access to additional opportunities.
