In the Upper School, we continue to place wellbeing at the heart of school life, offering consistent, compassionate support through every stage of a student’s journey.
Each student continues to belong in their tutor group led by a Form Tutor, who sees them daily and is a trusted adult in their life. The Head of Year provides continuity, staying with the year group throughout the Upper School years. Together with the Head of Upper School and wider pastoral team, they build relationships that are personal, caring and enduring.
Students also have access to our dedicated Wellbeing Centre, where the pastoral team, school counsellor, school chaplain, Learning Support staff and visiting professionals work side-by-side. The Snug, a quiet retreat within the centre, offers students a calm space when they need a break from the busy school day.
Success with Purpose
We know that these years are about so much more than grades. That’s why we run a rich PSHE programme covering topics like mental health, online safety, healthy relationships, nutrition, sleep and decision-making. Regular Life Skills Days and expert guest speakers bring these themes to life.
These themes are reinforced by our commitment to High Performance Learning, which places as much value on personal development as academic success. Students are supported to build empathy, emotional agility and resilience — not only learning how to succeed in school, but how to manage relationships, care for others, and face the future with confidence.
It is not just about doing well, it is about being well and we want them to lead with kindness and live with purpose.
Students also benefit from resources such as the TeenTips Wellbeing Hub, a trusted digital platform for both students and families, with advice on managing anxiety, navigating friendships, handling pressure and preparing for university or life beyond.

A Community of Belonging, Integrity, and Growth
RGS is a warm, diverse, and inclusive community where every student feels they belong. As a co-educational environment, we believe in preparing students for the real world by helping them develop meaningful friendships, mutual respect, and confidence in their own identity.
RGS has a strong emphasis on pastoral care... the school is organised around the students, not the other way around.
— RGS Parent
The result is a school culture where students feel safe, known and understood. They are supported to take more responsibility, but always with someone by their side.
We encourage students to be themselves, to challenge ideas, and to think independently. This ethos is reflected in our approach to learning, our student-led initiatives, and our strong commitment to kindness, integrity, and respect. Whether through community service, charity work, or mentoring younger students, RGS students leave not only with excellent results but as thoughtful, responsible young adults, ready for whatever comes next.
This is where resilience is built, values are shaped, and lifelong habits of self-care and emotional confidence are developed. It is also where they truly belong.
