Our aim is to provide all students with a sports programme that will foster a lifelong involvement in sport. We believe in the power of sport in creating good people. Our games and PE programmes are designed to facilitate both the pursuit of excellence and ‘sport for all’ – offering a wide range of activities and sporting opportunities which put the development of young people at the centre of all we do.

Whether you are aiming for national honours or just love the thrill of taking part, our sport programme is built around one central goal: developing great people through sport.

Sports Day 2025

At RGS, the Sport programme is divided into three main areas: Physical Education, Games and Sport. Sport has always formed a key piece of the fabric of school life at Reigate Grammar School which provides the opportunity to challenge students in ways other strands of school life do not.  Our vision is to develop great people through sport.

Chelsea FC at RGS

Our flagship partnership with Club World Cup Champions Chelsea FC brings brings high-level performance coaching straight to our pitches along with opportunities to learn at Cobham, explore Stamford Bridge and experience elements of a professional football curriculum.

Every student can get involved, whatever their level, with sessions for boys and girls, beginners and advanced players. It reflects our commitment to Sport for All and to helping young people grow in confidence, leadership and character.

Our Vision: People

Everything we do is guided by the values behind our PEOPLE acronym:

  • Purpose  – Sport should leave a meaningful and lasting impact on every child.

  • Engagement  – We ignite a love for physical activity that lasts a lifetime.

  • Opportunity  – We give every student the chance to explore and excel.

  • Performance – We focus on being your best self — not just the result.

  • Learner-Centred  – Each student’s journey is unique and supported.

  • Enjoyment – Because happiness and success go hand in hand.

At RGS, students don’t just participate, they belong. Through sport, they connect with teammates, build friendships and become part of something bigger: #TeamReigate

Sport for All: Engagement

Our inclusive approach means that every student has access to a wide variety of activities - over 70 weekly clubs and 30+ sports. Whether it is rugby, rowing, yoga or ultimate frisbee, students can find what they love and enjoy sport on their own terms.

From House Sport to after-school clubs, our culture celebrates every level of engagement. We know that students are motivated in different ways. For some, it is competition; for others, it is community or health. We evolve our programme every year to make sure there is something for everyone.

  • Inclusive and evolving
  • Focus on health, fitness and wellbeing
  • More than 10 House competitions annually
  • A culture that celebrates effort, participation and character

Striving for Excellence: Performance Pathways

For those who are ready to push further, we offer outstanding support for aspiring athletes. Our aim is always the same - to help every student become the best version of themselves.

The High-Performance Hub

Our High-Performance Hub supports students with the mindset, routines and knowledge to perform at their best. Students attend specialist workshops and have access to:

  • Personalised strength and conditioning programmes
  • Nutrition advice and injury rehabilitation support
  • Mental skills training such as resilience and focus
  • Personal development tools including planning and self-reflection

At Reigate Grammar School, our students benefit from the guidance of a passionate and experienced team of coaches who bring both expertise and heart to everything they do. Many of our staff have competed or coached at county, national and international levels, and they bring that wealth of experience directly to our sports fields, courts and tracks. As Reigatians become senior students, many more of the opportunities described become available.
